Abstract

Readingisoneofthelanguageskillsthatshouldbemasteredby students.Meanwhile,readingistheactivitytogettheinformationand knowledge from a text.Reading comprehension is a process of reconstructingthemeaningofthetexttoform anunderstanding. However,tofacilitatestudentsincomprehendingareadingtextneeds anappropriatestrategy.Thus,theaim ofthisresearchisintendedto investigatetheeffectofusingREDW strategyonstudents’reading comprehension.Pre-Experimentalmethod withOneGroup Pre-test Post-testdesign is chosen as the research methodologyin this research.ItwasconductedtothefifthsemesterstudentsofEnglish LanguageEducationStudyProgram inPakuanUniversity.Thereare eighteenstudentsweretakenassample.Theinstrumentsthatinclude pre-test,threetreatments,andpost-test.Then,thedatawerecollected throughreadingcomprehensionpre-testandpost-testscoresinthe form ofmultipleschoiceitems.Theitemsfocusedinidentifyingthe mainidea,supportingdetail,andvocabularybuilding.Then,thedata wereanalyzedusingt-testformula.Theresultofanalysisshowedthe valueoft-calculationis4.687whilethevalueoft-table2.10atthe significancelevel0.05basedonthedegreeoffreedom 17.Itindicates thevalueoft-calculationishigherthanthevalueoft-table.Thusthe alternative hypothesis (Ha)is accepted which means thatRead�Examine-Decide-Write (REDW) strategy affects students reading comprehension Keywords :Read-Examine-Decide-Write (REDW)strategy,reading comprehension,reporttext
