Abstract

Vocabulary is needed in four English skills and students are expected to use many words to express their ideas and to communicate effectively. Unfortunately, some students still find the difficulties because they lack of vocabularies. According to that reason, students need an appropriate media that can build fun atmosphere and engage their interest. One of the media is Duolingo. The aim of the research is to investigate the use of Duolingo application in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. The research is conducted to the level Super Basic of E-Corner Bogor. There are 16 students taken as the sample by using purposive sampling as technique sampling of this research. In conducting this research, the writer applies pre-experimental method with one group pre-test post-test design. Besides, the writer gives pre-test, four treatments and post-test to the students. Vocabulary test is given to know the result of Duolingo application in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. The data are analyzed by using t-test formula. From the calculation, the writer finds the result of t-test value is 5.58 meanwhile the t-table value is 2.13 at the significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) is 15. It is found that the t-test is higher than the t-table value (5.58>2.13). It shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, the use of Duolingo application enhances students’ vocabulary mastery. Keywords: media, Duolingo, mastery, vocabulary
