Abstract

Giffany Rizqy Pratama: Application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model in Improving Personal Writing Skills on VII grade students of Junior High School (SMPN) 2 Cipanas, Cianjur Regency. Essay. Indonesian Language Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University 2018. The purpose of this study is to find out the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) models in improving personal writing skills on students VII grade of Junior High School (SMPN) 2 Cipanas, Cianjur Regency, and to find out students’ problem in writing a personal letter. The method used in this research is the experimental method. Data collection techniques used is tests, observations, and questionnaires. The population in this research is students of VII grade of SMP Negeri 2 Cipanas, Cianjur Regency. The sample of this research is VII-G as an experimental class and VII-B as a control class with a cluster random sampling technique. The first hypothesis, namely the application of the Problem Based Learning model can improve the skills of personal writing letters to class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cipanas, Cianjur Regency, can be tested for truth. This is evidenced by the data (pretest) the experimental class obtained an average grade of 47 is at the level of mastery is less capable. While, the results of the data (posttest) in the experimental class obtained an average score of 79 at the level are capable mastery. This is evidenced by the data (pretest) the control class obtained an average grade of 46 is at the level of mastery is less capable. While, the results of the data (posttest) in the control class application of inquiry models obtained an average score of 71 at the level are capable enough. The results of the comparison of the mean experimental class and the control class by using the t-test formula, obtained the price of t₀ = 3.51 and d.b = 62, with the level of t₀₉₅ = 1.67 and t₀₉₉ = 2.39, therefore t₀ is greater than tt, i.e., 1,67<3.51>2.39. This shows a significant increase in the experimental class. The second hypothesis is that students experience problems in writing a personal letter proven to be true. Based on the results of the questionnaires obstacle, choose words with a percentage of 90%, develop the ideas 55%, create a framework letters 51%. It can be concluded that Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model can improve students’ skill in writing a personal letter, although at the time in writing a personal letter the students still experiencing of problems.
