Abstract

Reading is a process of understanding the meaning of the text. By improving the reading skill, students can understand the content of the lesson and several texts taught in language learning. The students often feel confuse and also bored in reading class. Therefore, they need other media that can offer them fun activities and attracts their interest in reading. One of teaching media is comic. The aim of the research is to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension skill on narrative text using comic as media. The population of this research is the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Cikembar. The total number of sample is 10 students of class B. The sample is taken by purposive sampling technique. In conducting this research, the researcher applies pre-experimental method and chooses one group pre-test post test design. The researcher gives pre-test, twice treatments and post test to the students. Reading test is given to investigate students’ reading comprehension skill on write narrative text. The data was analysed using t-test formula. Based on calculation of the data, the mean of the difference is 14,9. Furthermore, the total of deviation of difference is 402,9. Then, t-test value is 7.06 meanwhile, t-table value is 2.262 at significant level 0.05 whit the degree of freedom (df) is 9. In this case, the t-test value is higher than t-table value (7.06 > 2.262). It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In conclusion the result shows that the comic is one of many effective media to boost students’ reading comprehension on narrative text.
