Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading comprehension is one of the important skills that should be accomplished by students in understanding reading text. However, most of the students face the difficulties to comprehend the text specially narrative text. Thus, this research is aimed to find out the effect of using Story Mapping strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. The research was conducted to the 8th grade students of Junior High Schools. There are 26 students as the sample by using random sampling as technique sampling of this research. The pre-experimental method with One-group Pre-test Post-test design is chosen as the research methodology in this research. The instruments include pre-test, four treatments, and post-test was given to the students. Then, the t-test formula were applied on analyzing the data. The result of analysis showed the value of t-test is 4,36 while the value of t-table is 2,06 at the significance level 0,05 with the degree of freedom is 25. It indicates the value of t-test is higher than the value of the t-table. Thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted which means that Story mapping strategy affects students’ reading comprehension of narrative text.
