Abstract

Twenty-first-century students are required to master the ability to speak English. The problem that often arises in students is confusion about the content for speaking, lack of confidence, and fear of making mistakes. This research aimed to determine whether there is an effect on students’ speaking ability using Mind Map. This research was conducted on the first-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Ciawi. The researcher uses Quasi-experimental with two groups, experimental and control groups. The obtained data using a t-test and a degree of freedom 58 at the significant level of α=0.05 shows a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The researcher concludes that the Mind Map can be used to improve the students’ speaking ability. Keywords: Mind Map, Role Play, Speaking Ability
