ABSTRAC Crabs are an important biota in aquatic ecosystems, which can be used as bioindicators for water quality, because they were sensitive to pollutants, quite easy to captured, and relative long live. Crabs act as decomposing organisms, also as the food source for other animals. The Cisadane river is one of the important rivers that run from West Java Province to Banten Province. In downstream part of the river, it’s quality is decreasing due to pollution. The declining quality of an aquatic ecosystems could be known, among others from the diversity of crabs species. This study was conducted using the Visual Encounter Survey method, through observing, and sampling of crabs in the study site. The crabs sampling carried out at 08.00 to 16.00 WIB, three times a week, for four consecutive weeks. This study found 105 crabs consisted of 84 individu of genus Parathelphusa, and 21 individu of genus Geosesarma. The genus most often crabs found in the study site was Parathelphusa. They were mostly found in the lowlands area, at the stagnant water, or burrowed in the substrate. The species diversity of crab in the study site relatively low, and the genus Parathelphusa had relative abundance index than Geosesarma. The low species diversity of crabs in the study site indirectly indicated that the quality of Cisadane river was not suitable enough for crabs. %A Fauzi Eka Putra %A Wahyu Prihatini %A S.Y.
