abstract: Analsis skripsi ini mengulas tentang dampak dan pertahanan diri terhadao tokoh sentral yang ada di dalam novel the art of being normal karya Lisa Williamson. Tokoh sentral sebagai individu yang tidak sesuai dengan Heteronormatif mendapat diskriminasi oleh masyarakat. Heteronormativitas adalah orientasi normal yang dimiliki manusia. Pandangan ini mengasumsikan bahwa hubungan seksual dan perkawinan yang paling sesuai untuk manusia adalah hubungan lawan jenis. Kekerasan verbal dan fisik yang dialami tokoh sentral.
