MOTIVATION TO SPEAK A PAPER Submitted to English Language Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences of Pakuan University as Fulfillment of the Requirement for Sarjana Pendidikan Examination ID - eprintsunpak3605 Y1 - 2019/10/12/ N2 - This research aimed to investigate and to describe the strategies used by the teacher to encourage students? motivation to speak in the classroom. Descriptive qualitative research is employed in this research. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Sukamakmur, Bogor. The participant of this research was one of the English teachers at that school. The instruments were classroom observation, interview, and documentation. The result showed that strategies to promote and to encourage students? motivation to speak in the classroom are role play, think pairs share, number heads together, group discussion, write around, repetition drill, and question?answer drill. Otherwise, according to the data, to encourage students? motivation to speak in the class is not easy, but the teacher has strategy to encourage students? willingness to speak, they are: giving students opportunity to speak, avoiding to compare students, comprehending students to make mistake, making an enjoyable classroom atmosphere, giving humor and game during teaching, giving students rewards and positive feedback, varying the learning process, involving students actively in the class and allaying students? worries and fears to speak.
