Qualitative method is used to conduct this research. The writer conducted this research in Genre Based Reading, semester 1 class B, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. The instruments is used in this research are observation, documentation and interview. The result of this research showed that the instructor English applied small group dicussion to teach reading comprehension in the class. The English instrucor used three step of small group dicussion in teaching reading, there are introduction, guiding the discussion and summurize. Addtionally, the students are active in learning process because they can interact with their peers in the group. From small group discussion, they work together to dicuss the task such as they can express their opinion and get new knowledge from their peers in the group. Students agreed that small group dicussion could help them to comprehend the English text. They could ask about the meaning, content and express their opinions or ideas with their peers in the group. Then, the writer found that the students enjoyed to dicuss the task with their peers in the group.
