The approach in this research is quantitative. Moreover, the method used is preexperimental design and chose one group pre-test post-test as the design. Academic vocabulary is used as the instrument to derive the data in a form of multiple choices which consists of 30 numbers for each test. The population and sample of the data were the second grade students of SMK Amal Mulia 1 and the total number of the students was 22 out of 35 since the rest of them were joining the school programs. The treatments conducted for three times starting from 21st October until 31st October 2019. After all the treatments, the post-test was given in order to find out the effect of the technique. Moreover, the results showed that there was an increase between the total score of the pre-test and post-test from all the students. The total score of pre-test is 585 with the average 26.6, while the total score of post-test is 1520 with the average 69. In addition, the hypothesis is also accepted since the t-test value are higher than the t-table (9.14 > 2.08). Therefore, it can be concluded that semantic mapping technique is one of an effective techniques that gives an effect on students’ academic vocabulary.
