TY - THES N2 - Teaching strategies are some ways used by teachers to enhance the ability in teaching process by knowing the condition of students and understanding the appropriate ways to teach them. Mental retardation is one of the low achiever that have some obstacles and mentally backwardness under average. They have difficulties in academic activity, communication, or social. The research is aimed at describing strategies used by the teacher in process of teaching English writing to mentally retarded students. Descriptive method is used in conducting the research. The research was conducted to the teachers who teach English writing to mentally retarded students at SLB-C Dharma Wanita Bogor. The data were gained from documentation, observation, and interview. The data showed that teachers always separate students by lowest and highest achiever. The teachers always showed them particular picture that related to the topic they will learn. They guide students to write and read the words in English. Moreover they consider students ability to write then guide them to write it correctly based on their individual skill. For the highest achievement teachers will give them the original task but for the lowest they will give the different task with low level. These activities were done by students one by one, in the post activity teachers always review the lesson for each person and give them home work with different task related to their skill achievement.
