UNDERSTANDING OF STORIES}, school = {Universitas Pakuan}, abstract = {Teaching young learners is very different from teaching adults, because young learners have different characteristics. From adult, storytelling is one of techniques that is often used by teachers in delivering material to young learners, but young learners have short attention span. For that reason, the teachers need appropriate media to get young learners? interest. The aim of this research is to find out the effect of using hand puppets on students? understanding of stories. The research was conducted to the 5th grade students of SD Kreativa. There were 24 students from class 5A taken as the sample by using purposive sampling technique. In conducting this research, the writer applied pre- experimental method and one group pre-test post-test as the design. She gives pre?test, three times treatment, and post-test to the students. The questions about characters and plot of stories were given to measure students? understanding about stories. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. From calculation the the data, she finds the t-test value 9.42, meanwhile the t-table value is 2.07 at significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) is 23. It was found that t-calculated was higher than that of t?table (9.42 ? 2.07). It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, the use of hand puppets affects students? understanding of stories. Keywords: hand puppets, stories, young learners}, url = {http://eprints.unpak.ac.id/4701/} }
