It can express ideas, feeling and thought to be delivered to the readers by written form. The title of the research is “the effectiveness of using contextual teaching and learning method on students’ writing descriptive text”. It was conducted to the seventh grade of SMP IT Daarul Fikri. The aim of the research is to investigate the effect of contextual teaching and learning method on students’ ability to write descriptive text. The method in this research is a quasy experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. Purposive sampling technique is used to take the sample. There are two groups in his research: experimental and control groups. Each group consist of 24 students. The data are collected through the pre-test and post-test. The result of the data analysis, it is found that t-test value = 7.96. The value of degree freedom = 46. The list of t-table at significance level 0.05 is 1.68 and significance level 0.01 is 2.42, because the value of t-calculated is higher than the value of t-table (7.96 > 2.42 > 1.68), it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that there is an effect of using contextual teaching and learning method on students’ ability to write descriptive text.
