SPEAKING ABILITY (A Study Conducted to the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Dramaga) ID - eprintsunpak5019 Y1 - 2017/08/25/ N2 - Speaking is an important thing to be learnt for reaching learning outcome of English skill. In fact, students find difficulties and problems to speak English. The method that can encourage them to speak up is needed. One of ways is using Task-Based Learning. The research title is ?The Effect of Task-Based Learning on Students? Speaking Ability?. It is conducted to find out of the effect of using Task-Based Learning on Students? Speaking Ability. The method used in this research is Quasi-Experimental Method with pre-test and post-test control group. The research is conducted to the first students of SMPN 2 Dramaga. The total number of the population is 360 students. It is divided into nine classes and each class consists of 40 students. Proportional random sampling technique by lottery system is used to get only 10% sample. The sample consists of 36 students for experimental group and 36 students for control group. The experimental group learns speaking through Task-Based Learning, while control group learns speaking through Cooperative Learning (Think, Pair, Share). The data is collected with pre-test and post-test by giving the students speaking test. Then the t-test is used to analyze the data. Based on the data calculation, it is found that tcalculated is 4.03. The value of the degree of freedom (df) is 70 with the list of ttable value at the significant level t005 is 1.67 and the significant level t001 is 2.39. The value of tcalculated is higher than ttable. It can be described as 4.03 > 2.39 > 1.67. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an effect of task?based learning on students? speaking abilit ER -
