TY - THES N2 - Translating proverb is not an easy task since it is not only about words, but also about cultures. The research entitled ?Students? Error in Translating Indonesian Proverbs into English? is aimed to find out students? errors in translating Indonesian proverbs into English. The research is conducted at English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. In conducting the research, descriptive method is used. The data are taken from the students? work, questionnaire and interview note. The research participants are the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program. The research result shows that the students make an error in translating Indonesian proverbs into English. They still translate the proverbs word by word. The students got difficulties in finding equivalent proverbs in the target language. Lack of knowledge about proverbs also becomes a reason why they make an error in translating Indonesian proverbs. Based on the result of the research, the researcher suggests that to translate proverbs, the students have to enrich their knowledge about proverb and its cultural background in order to get the appropriate meaning.
