abstract: This research is aimed at investigating the correlation between students’ability to use linking words and their writing achievement. It is conducted to the second semester students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. The writer chooses this semester because they had learnt writing in the second semester. The population of this research is 190 students while the sample is 127 students, taken by quota or convenience sampling technique.The writer applies Ex Post Facto Design especially in Correlation Design using Pearson Product-Moment Formula. The data are taken from the students’ ability to use linking words test and the student’ writing achievement score. The result of r-observed is 0.412, which is higher than r-table (0.176). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted since there is a correlation between students’ability to use linking words and their writing achievement.The result shows that thestudents who get a good score on using linking words testare also get good score in writing achievement.
