Application of Problem Based Learning Model in Improving News Text Writing Skills of Grade VII Students of SMP PGRI 1 Ciawi, Bogor Regency. Thesis. Pakuan University. Bogor. Under the Guidance of Wildan Fauzi Mubarock, M.Pd. and Siti Chodijah, M.Pd. The Problem Based Learning model is a learning model that requires students to be independent and able to solve problems in groups. This study aims to determine the improvement of the Problem Based Learning model on the skills of writing news texts of seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Ciawi and to find out the obstacles of students in writing news texts through the Problem Based Learning model. The method used is experimental. The data collection techniques used are tests, questionnaires, and observations. The population in this study was class VII PGRI 1 Ciawi Junior High School totaling 160 students. The sample in this study was 64 students, namely class VII-E totaling 32 students as the experimental class and class VII-A totaling 32 students as the control class. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase when applying the Problem Based Learning model. This can be seen from the average experimental class in the pretest was 48.43 percentage of 48% and increased in the posttest value to 87 percentage of 87%. The pretest score in the control class was 41 percentage 41% and got a posttest score of 80 percentage 80%. Based on the results of calculations carried out by looking at the comparison of learning outcomes in the experimental class and control class using the t-test formula, the t-table for a significant level of 1% is 2.38 and the t-table for a significant level of 5% is 1.67. That way, the t-count is greater than the t-table and can be said to be significant because t-table < t-count, namely 2.38 < 3.09> 1.67. There are the biggest obstacles for students when learning to write news texts using the Problem Based Learning model experienced by 32 students in the experimental class, namely 13 students, a percentage of 41% when developing the "why" element, obstacles in developing the "how" element as many as 19 students, a percentage of 59% and obstacles when using linguistic rules as many as 19 students, a percentage of 59%.
