She could not have been at this point without all of them. v ABSTRACT Since English in Indonesia is a foreign language, classroom has to be the most comfortable place for students to speak English with others. In order to make students interested in learning English, especially in mastering speaking skill, teachers should try to use a variety of teaching techniques in order to adapt the students’ level of proficiency. Unfortunately, not all teachers apply teaching techniques in teaching learning process. However, this research aimed to find out whether there is an effect on students’ speaking skill by using teaching technique in the learning process. The researcher chose INFORMATION GAP ACTIVITY in conducting this research. The concept of Information Gap is one of the aspects of communication in classroom. Its concept is based on completing a task by completing missing or incomplete information. Its sets up practices for specific language projects. The research was conducted to the students of the eleventh grade, science two department of the Integrated Mutiara Senior High School. The research uses Pre-experimental method with one group pre-test pos-test design. After conducting this research, it was found that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected meanwhile the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The result proved that the students’ speaking score taught by using Information gap is better than using non- Information gap activities.
