With public speaking, people need language for communication. It can be a tool to convey information to many people. Public speaking has several parts, one of that is the opening of public speaking. The opening has several ways to convey it, but some students do not know how to convey a good and correct way of opening, sometimes students skip this part. Qualitative methods and analysis were used in this study. The writer also uses three instruments, namely observation, questionnaire, and focus group discussion. He conducted research at the English Language Education Study Program at Pakuan University in semester 5 with 28 students who were selected using purposive sampling. The writer finds out the way and the reasons for students in opening their public speaking.
