Reading is a basic part of languages in learning English. Along with technological advancement the teachers use several media to help students in learning process. Therefore, there are many methods that can be applied to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. Mind mapping is one of creative visual learning tools that make the lesson become clearer. This study aims to investigate the strengths and the weaknesses of using Mind Mapping technique in reading class. This study was conducted through Narrative Inquiry. The researcher uses oral narrative with the Questionnaire, Reflective Journal, and Interview. To collect the data and achieve the goal, the researcher uses systematic procedure to have deeper understanding of live experiences. The subjects of this study were 18 students of eight grade students of MTs MA Ciparasi, a total 3 students were selected as research participants. The result of the study showed that the strengths of using Mind Mapping technique it can develop students’ understanding of narrative text, it is fun way of learning, saving their time, encourages themselves to learn, and easy to summarize the text. Furthermore, the weaknesses of using Mind Mapping technique is the students find it hard to remember the concept of Mind Map, it is not easy to apply Mind Map conventionally, it is not easy to find the ideas, it requires equipment, and Mind Map is essentially personal method.
