Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Dampak Trauma terhadap Tokoh Utama dalam Novel Dear Edward karya Ann Napolitano.” bertujuan untuk mengetahui penyebab, dampak dan cara mengatasi trauma oleh tokoh utama novel. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dan menggunakan teknik analisis data berupa studi kepustakaan (library research) dengan memaparkan unsur instrinsik dan ekstrinsik novel. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, tokoh utama bernama Edward Adler menderita trauma psikologis akibat dari tragedi kecelakaan pesawat yang menewaskan seluruh penumpang kecuali dirinya. Dampak dari trauma tersebut membuat tokoh utama mengalami insomnia, antisosial, merasa cemas dan acuh. Dampak tersebut kemudian dapat di atasi dengan adanya bantuan dari kerabat juga keluarga, teman dan kekasih dari korban kecelakaan lain. ABSTRACT This research is entitled "The Impact of Trauma on the Main Character in Dear Edward Novel by Ann Napolitano." intented to find out the causes, impacts and ways to deal with trauma by the main character of the novel. The research method used a qualitative descriptive method and used data analysis techniques in the form of library research by describing the intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the novel. Based on the results of the research, the main character named Edward Adler suffers from psychological trauma as a result of the plane crash tragedy that killed all passengers except himself. The impact of the trauma makes the main character experience insomnia, anti-social, anxious and indifferent. These impacts then be overcome with the help of relatives as well as family, friends and lovers of other accident victims
