      "abstract": "English is one of the international languages that is used in several countries to\r\ncommunicate. Therefore, English is one of the language skills that must be mastered.\r\nOne of the skills that must be mastered is speaking. Storytelling technique is a common\r\nway that can help students in improving their speaking skills and helps teachers to\r\nidentify the level of the student's comprehension of what they listen to or read. Thus,\r\nresearch aim is to describe benefits & challenges of storytelling in teaching speaking.\r\nThis research used qualitative research with a narrative inquiry method. The first step\r\nis observation, followed by narrative inquiry through an interview process between\r\nresearchers and participants. This was done with a Teacher of Private Course. The\r\nbenefits and challenges about storytelling. From the results of observations, the\r\nstudents involved well in the learning process. The benefits can be seen by the students'\r\ninterest in learning English increases with the use of storytelling. It can be concluded\r\nthere are more benefits than challenges in using storytelling in learning speaking,\r\nespecially narrative text. From the teacher’s point of view, the students understand the\r\nmaterial being studied because they are directly involved in the learning process.\r\nKeywords: storytelling, narrative text, speaking.",
