communicate. Therefore, English is one of the language skills that must be mastered.&#13;
One of the skills that must be mastered is speaking. Storytelling technique is a common&#13;
way that can help students in improving their speaking skills and helps teachers to&#13;
identify the level of the student's comprehension of what they listen to or read. Thus,&#13;
research aim is to describe benefits &amp; challenges of storytelling in teaching speaking.&#13;
This research used qualitative research with a narrative inquiry method. The first step&#13;
is observation, followed by narrative inquiry through an interview process between&#13;
researchers and participants. This was done with a Teacher of Private Course. The&#13;
benefits and challenges about storytelling. From the results of observations, the&#13;
students involved well in the learning process. The benefits can be seen by the students'&#13;
interest in learning English increases with the use of storytelling. It can be concluded&#13;
there are more benefits than challenges in using storytelling in learning speaking,&#13;
especially narrative text. From the teacher’s point of view, the students understand the&#13;
material being studied because they are directly involved in the learning process.&#13;
