As the number of international students increases, understanding their adaptation process becomes essential to support their learning and well-being. The aim of the study is to examine how foreign learners experience and respond to cultural challenges in Indonesian English learning environments. Using a qualitative narrative inquiry, data were collected from three foreign learners through reflective journals, a questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed that cultural adaptation is a complex process that deeply affects students’ emotional, social, academic, and language learning experiences. Common challenges included homesickness, loneliness, classroom communication differences, and fear of speaking English. Despite these difficulties, students also showed personal and academic growth as they gradually adapted. The study is guided by Berry’s Acculturation Model, Kim’s Cross-Cultural Adaptation Theory, and MacIntyre’s Willingness to Communicate. The findings offer practical recommendations to help schools create more supportive learning environments that improve students’ emotional well-being, academic success, and cultural adjustment.
