      "abstract": "Note-taking is an important skill, activity, and tool for students to help\r\nthem recall the information as they re-read through their notes. Note-\r\ntaking also helps students in organizing their notes and gather essential\r\ninformation. In addition, note-taking provides several strategies for the\r\nstudent to help them gain information. This research discussed the note-\r\ntaking strategy used by the student to understand the literary text and\r\naimed at figuring out students’ note-taking strategy in understanding the\r\nshort story. The strategy in this research includes five note-taking\r\nstrategies, which are the Cornell method, outline method, charting\r\nmethod, mapping method, and sentence method. Moreover, the\r\nparticipants of this research were third-semester students of the English\r\nLanguage Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and\r\nEducational Sciences, Pakuan University. The writer uses the qualitative\r\nstudy method and descriptive analysis technique. The instruments used\r\nin this research were documentation, interview, and focus group\r\ndiscussions. The result showed that students use note-taking strategies\r\nto understand the short story. From 19 students, it was found that 53%\r\nuse sentence strategy, 42% use outlining strategy, and 5% use mapping\r\nstrategy. The finding in this research shows that the strategy in note-\r\ntaking does help the student to understand and break down the content\r\nand context.\r\nKeywords: Literary Text, Note Taking, Short Story, Student’s Strategy",
