Abstract

The paper entitled “Lecturers‟ Approaches in Teaching of English for Specific Purposes” is purposed to describe the approaches that are applied by English lecturers in teaching English for Specific Purposes. In this case English for midwifery. The research was conducted in STIKES Bogor Husada and Bhakti Husada Cikarang. The researcher participants were the English lecturers who were selected by using purposive sampling. Qualitative approach and descriptive method were applied in conducting the research. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The questionnaire was distributed online by using Google form to figure out the approaches that were used by English lecturers to teach ESP course. Besides, the interview was conducted online to dig up further information about the approaches. The lesson plans of classroom activities were also collected as the documents of the research to validate the other data obtained. The findings show that in conducting the classroom activity, the lecturers applied Lexical Approach, Authentic Material Approach, and Project-Based Learning Approach. Those approaches were implemented with a purpose to fulfill the students‟ needs in learning English for Specific Purposes that is the need to become midwives who could use English for their work field.
