Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper entitled “Teaching Extensive Reading through Visual Viewing Technique” is intended to investigate whether there is an effect or not of using Visual Viewing Technique on student’s comprehension in teaching extensive reading. This research involved the first semester students of English Language study program of Pakuan University, Bogor. The sample was 21 students from semester 1B. They were chosen by using random sampling technique. In conducting this research, the researcher used quantitative approach and applied pre- experimental method with one group pre-test post-test. The instruments of this research were multiple choice and short answer form. Additionally, the data were analyzed by using t-test calculation. Thus, the result of t-test value is 7.96 meanwhile the t-table value is 2.09 from the significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) is 20. It means that the t-test value is higher than t-table value (7.96>2.09). The calculation assumes that the null hypothesis (Ha) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, Visual Viewing Technique affects student’s reading comprehension in teaching extensive reading. Keywords: Extensive Reading, Reading Comprehension, Visual Viewing Technique
