Abstract

ABSTRACT PLEASE strategy is one of strategies that teacher can apply to solve problem about writing essay. The study in titled “The Implementation of PLEASE Strategy on Students’ Ability to Write Descriptive Text” is aimed at investigating the use of PLEASE strategy on students’ ability to write descriptive text. This research was conducted in SMP Negeri 8 Bogor. The sample is the 7th grade students in 7A which consists of 34 students by using random sampling as technique sampling. Pre-experimental method and one group pre-test post-test are implemented in this research. There are several steps in conducting this research. The first, the writer gave pre-test descriptive text about people with the topic; my parent. The writer implemented four times the treatment and then the writer gave post-test to the students. Writing descriptive text essay is given to measure students’ ability. After gaining pre-test and post-test result, t-test is used to analyze the data. From t-test calculation, the t-test value is 0.15 while t-value is 0.05 or 5% with level of significant of t-table 2.03 with the degree of freedom (df) is 33. Thus, the value of t-calculated is lower than that of t-table (1.76 < 2.03). It can be concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. Hence, PLEASE strategy does not give impact on students’ ability to write descriptive text. Keyword: PLEASE strategy, descriptive text, writing ability.
