Abstract

CHEFS’ STRATEGIES IN ENHANCING THEIR SPEAKING ABILITY The ability to speak English nowadays has been a vital role, especially for those who want to master it to support their job, for exampleis chefs. That’s why appropriate strategies are needed to enhance their speaking ability significantly. Therefore, a research to find out the chef’s strategies to enhance their speaking ability is needed. This research employs descriptive qualitative research design and it is done at the cruise ship and Shamoji Bandung Restaurant. Moreover, it takes four chefs, divided into two ordinary chefs and two head chefs. Upon the collection of the data, the research uses questionnaire and interview. The data validation are checked by crosschecking the data from interview and questionnaire. The research result shows that the strategies taking popularity include Cognitive, Metacognitive and Social strategy. It can be proven from the data analysis that these strategies are effective in enhancing their speaking ability. Keywords: English for specific purposes, learning strategies, speaking ability
