Abstract

Storytelling is one of the most appealing teaching activities in teaching young learners. Young Learners can easily understand the information as this activity encourages them to use their own understanding and imagination. This research is aimed to describe the use of retelling story activity in encouraging young learners to speak. The research is conducted at Insan Kamil, Bogor with 27 students and one teacher as the participants. In conducting this research, descriptive analytical method is applied by the researcher to describe the data. The qualitative data itself are collected through classroom observation, interview, and questionnaire. The result of this research shows that there are four aspects that are need to be considered in applying retelling story activity in encouraging young learners to speak. They include students’ understanding and interest, capability of teacher in delivering the story, kind of story that is used, and also the way of activity conducted.
