Abstract

Writing is one of the language skills that needs to be learned in English subject. The ability to write is an important skill for learners. However, the students still get some difficulties when they are asked to write an English text, especially narrative text. This research is conducted to find out the effect of using picture series on students’ ability to write narrative text. This research is conducted at SMA Negeri 8 Kota Bogor. In this research, quasi-experimental (non-equivalent control group design) method was used. Random sampling techniquewas used totake two groups (experimental group and control group) that consist of 35 students each groupas the sample. The data were taken from two tests: pre-test and post-test. Some steps were done to analyze the data and t-test formula was applied to get the final result. According to the data calculation, the t-test value was 8.91, and the value of t-table with d.f = 68 at significant level 0.05 is 2.69. It shows thatthe t-test value is higher that thet-table value (8.91>2.69),thus alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that the use of picture series affect the students’ ability to write narrative text. Keywords: picture series, writing ability, narrative text
