Abstract

The paper entitled “Using PQRST strategy on Students’ ability in Reading Comprehension” is aimed to investigate whether or not there is an effect of PQRST strategy on students’ reading comprehension. The PQRST stands for Preview, Question, Read, Summarize and Test. In conducting the research, Pre-Experimental method and One Group Pretest Posttest design is chosen as the research methodology. The population of the research is the ninth grade students of SMP Islam Nurul Amal at 2019/2020 school year. As many as 33 students of 9A are taken as the sample. The writer uses lottery system to take the sample. Reading comprehension test is given to measure their reading comprehension ability. The data are analyzed by using t-test formula. From the calculation, she finds the result of t-test value is 7.18 with the degree of freedom (df) is 32, the t-table value at significant level 0.05 is 2.03. The result shows that the value of t-test is higher than t-table (7.18 > 2.03). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is received. Thus, the writer concludes that using PQRST strategy affects students’ ability in reading comprehension. Keywords: PQRST strategy, reading comprehension
