Abstract

The paper entitled “Students’ Problems in Constructing News Item Text” is aimed to find out Students’ Problems in Construct News Item Text. To conduct the research, the writer applies descriptive method to describe the students’ problems in constructing news item text. The research is conducted to the third grade students as the respondent. Purposive sampling is used to conduct this research and took some students in a class of third-grade students who have highest, mediocre and lower achievement in constructing news item text. The writer uses three instruments including documentation, questionnaire and interview. The documentation are taken from students’ worksheet and score is done to the teacher who teaches English. Students’ worksheets are used to find out their problem in constructing news item text. Questionnaire is distributed to 28 students after constructing news item text. Interview is done into 9 students for get a deep their problem. The research finding shows that the students get problems in constructing news item text. The writer finds out three students’ problems namely problems in grammar, problems in spelling and problems in punctuation. The result shows that the problems in grammar and spelling are the most difficulty experienced by the students in constructing news item text. Keywords: Problems, News Item Text
