Abstract

The purpose of the present is to investigate the students learning strategies to construct a paragraph. Background of the study in this research that many students have some difficulties such us; decided the topic, make the main idea, develop the content and create the ending of the paragraph. On the other side, there are students who can constructing the paragraph well. They can decide the topic, make the main idea, easy to develop the content and create the ending. From that case may the students have the strategy in constructing a paragraph. The reason for constructing the research was the writer wants to know students learning strategies to construct a paragraph. The participant in this study were 48 students from English Education Study Program of Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan Unversity. Qualitative analysis produces several findings related to the use of learning strategy. The data were collected by using observation, questionnaire and interview. The result of the research was all of the learning strategies was used by the students to constructing a paragraph. The first strategy that used by the students is metacognitive strategy, the second is social/affective strategy and the last is cognitive strategy
