Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper entitled “The Use of Ice Breaker Activities to Teach Spoken English” was aimed to describe the process of ice breaker activities applied during teaching-learning spoken English. The research employed descriptive qualitative research and conducted at International Language Programs (ILP) Bogor. The participant of this research was an ILP teacher. Moreover, this study used three research instruments to collect the data: observation, documentation and interview. The process of ice breaker activities as warmer at the beginning of learning started by questions and answers activity such as chitchatting about students’ condition, daily activities and favorite things, then connecting the questions into topic learning. Continued by fun games activity at the core of learning. Then, feedback-review activity at the end of learning by sharing teachers-students’ opinions about the lesson, supported by some questions from the lesson which were reflected to life experience to engage students contribution and motivation in class.
