Abstract

Teachers are an important factor in educational organizations and are a core part of the determinants of the success of their students. The teacher should be able to create a learning atmosphere that is fun, exciting, dynamic, full of enthusiasm, and full of challenges. Such learning atmosphere can facilitate students in gaining knowledge. Teachers can also instill essential noble values for students to achieve learning goals, based on the preliminary research known that teachers of Private Vocational High Schools in Makassar City have relatively low innovations. Therefore, research is needed to obtain information on related variables with increasing teacher innovation. This study aims to find efforts to overcome the problem of low teacher innovation by knowing the strength of variables that are suspected to influence teacher innovation. In this case, the organizational climate, situational leadership, and commitment to the organization both individually and together with the variables related to teacher innovation. The sample selected amounted to 186 teachers with the criteria of private teachers in Makassar, South Sulawesi province. This study uses Mixed Sequential Explanatory Method, the first research to use quantitative methods then to deepen the research using qualitative methods so that the results of the study are more in-depth and comprehensive. This study uses a correlational study method to test the research hypothesis, namely to find out whether there is a positive relationship between organizational climate, situational leadership, commitment to the organization and teacher innovation. Based on these results, an analysis was carried out using the SITOREM method to determine recommendations and determine the priority order of handling indicators that must be corrected. Innovation can be improved through strengthening the organizational climate, situational leadership, and commitment to the organization. The study population was 346 Private Vocational High School teachers in Makassar, with a random method and calculation of Slovin formula, 186 samples were selected.
