Abstract

This research aims to know whether there is a different effect of the use of scavenger hunt game and taboo game on students' ability to write descriptive text. This research used a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The sample of this research is the students in class X Administrasi Perkantoran 1 and X Administrasi Perkantoran 2 of SMK IT Bina Insani. Scavenger hunt game used in the experimental class and taboo game for the control class. The research found that there is a difference in the effect of scavenger hunt game and taboo game. The different score of the Mean Score confirmed the average of experimental class in the pre-test (58.8) and post-test (83.46). Whereas, the mean score of the control class in the pre-test (60.13) and post-test (77.93). The N-Gain score informs the average gain score in the experimental class (0.240) and control class (0.171). The t-test also indicates that the t-value (3.810) is higher than the t-table (2.00172). The hypothesis (Ha) is accepted; which indicates that there is a difference effect of the use of scavenger hunt game and taboo game on students' ability to write descriptive text. Here, scavenger hunt game provides a higher effect than taboo game. Keyword: writing, descriptive text, scavenger hunt game, taboo game
