Abstract
Verb describes the activity or event which happened in daily activity. Generally, verbs are divided into action verb and linking verb. Action verb is the verb which is used to know what people think, do and are happening in their life students still make errors in distinguishing Action verb and linking verb. If the errors are not revealed and anticipated, the writer is afraid that the errors will be continued. This paper entitled “Students' Error in distinguishing Action verb and linking verb” is aimed to find out kind of errors that students made, and the causes of the errors. This research is conducted to the students of class B at SMP N 1 Muncang. The writer uses purposive sampling technique in conducting this research and takes five students who have low score in English subject as the sample and uses descriptive method to describe kinds of error that are made by the students in distinguishing Action verb and linking verb and the causes why it happened. The main data are gained from students work, questionnaire and interview. Then the data are analyzed. From the result the research, it is concluded that the most appearing errors are grammatical error and transfer error while the most causes of errors are simplification and inadequate learning.
