Abstract

The paper entitled “The Use of Discovery Learning in Managing Large Classes” was purposed to describe the way of Discovery Learning to manage learning activities in large classes. The research employed descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted at SMAIT Al-Kahfi Cigombong. The participants of this research were two English teachers of that school. This research was guided by using a question “How is Discovery Learning used to manage large classes?”. Moreover, the instruments of this research included classroom observation, interview, and documentation. The finding of this research described the way of Discovery Learning was used in large classes reflected by the activities used in the classroom. The result of this research was Discovery Learning activities made the students learnt by themselves (students-center), such as finding the material from the book, analysing the sentences or text, discussing with group to find the answer and sharing the result. In addition, all activities increased students’ participation and the teachers easily controlled the students. By this result, Discovery Learning was suitable to be applied in large classes.
